LE MEUBLE-PAR-TOUT
COMPETION ENTRY /QUEBEC ORDER OF ARCHITECTURE/ MONTREAL, QC
SUBMISSION DATE: DECEMBER 2012
TYPE: ARCHITECTURE/ INTERIOR DESIGN
The design follows a two-fold logic. One the one hand it makes the entire floor as open, transparent and light as possible while respecting the privacy and the functioning of the required sub-programs. On the other hand it aims at providing a floating island which becomes the center of activities and meetings and acts as the identifying element of the entire space. To do so, the design revolves around the development of a large scale piece of wall-furniture that some times acts as a wall, and some times as a meuble in order to both enclose and reveal certain spaces while traversing the length of the floor.
The design focuses on strengthening the peripheral band along the long edges of the building and on locating the more public functions in the center, in order to maximize transparency and the light penetration. The perimeters are doubled by a circulation loop that connect all parts of the plan. The meuble will reveal some of the most public elements of the program such as the reception and the conference room, while also containing elements of informal encounters such as sitting, discussion areas and shelving for the library, the reception, and the conference room.
