REVEALING VIOLET
SUBMISSION DATE: FALL 2015
TYPE: INSTALLATION/ LANDSCAPE
The garden consists of a meadow within which vertical screens made of a translucent fabric laden with thermally responsive paint are placed. As the visitors stroll the garden, they may leave their own trace on the screens by touching them while watching the effect of natural elements such as air, dew, or rain leaving their mark on the screens and altering their materiality. While the meadow extends at the foot of the screens, the top of the screens react to and interact with both natural and man made imprints which are fleeting, animating the space of the garden for different durations (from seconds to hours). The thermally responsive paint, which is invisible unless physically affected will vary from light grey to dark purple, therefore each screen will reveal a different character once touched. At the heart of the garden, three of the screens may pivot to enclose a portion of the garden and create a ‘room’ so that one may contemplate the change of colors and views. The screens are placed at 1.5 m intervals, offering framed views and creating successive thresholds to and fro this central area.
